When
God Doesn’t Make Sense

A lesson about trusting God in spite of our perceptions about Him.

What a violent spring and summer it has been in the world of nature! In this era of the 24-hour news cycle that brings us a never ending barrage of bad news, some may have already forgotten the twin tragedies that devastated countries on the other side of the globe just weeks ago. On May 2 and 3, Cyclone Nargis struck the low-lying southern Asian nation of Myanmar, killing at least 84,000 people and leaving nearly 54,000 others missing. As despair and disease spread during the cyclone’s aftermath, Myanmar’s corrupt government prevented almost all international aid from reaching the suffering masses. A few days later — on May 12 — a magnitude 7.9 earthquake rocked China’s Sichuan province, leaving more than 69,000 dead and 17,000 missing. Many of the dead were young children who were attending school when the buildings collapsed around them.
